Local Foods Debated: Is Changing Our Eating a Pressing Social Justice Issue?

Check out the article from the Index last week on local food in the cafeteria, and what Dean Westfall had to say about Farms to K's purchasing policy. Check out some of the comments that people made on the article as well!

  1. Emily,
I'm so glad you wrote this article for the Index. I think you have presented the foundations for a great debate, one that hopefully can have some impact among the administrators controlling our food and spending budgets. Maybe it'd be cool to do a follow-up story, either just an exclusive interview with Hannah Gray, or see if you can get Dean Westfall and Hannah to participate in a point, counter-point discussion.

  2. Great work, Emily. Reading this article online and the comments to follow gave me goosebumps. Kudos to you and the Index staff (big props to Kelsey and Hannah as two fearless leaders) for doing the work that a community paper requires: diving into, researching and framing issues to help set up real dialogue. Have you gotten any feedback from the people you interviewed?

  3. I haven't gotten any feedback from Hannah or Dean Westfall. We were hoping to do a follow up interview with Hannah, or have her write a little something in response to the article. Trace Redmond might be writing a response actually...not sure yet. The Valentine's Day dinner is coming up as well (which I reviewed last year), so that might be a good time to address this again!
